Partners Column – February, 2017

Hello Everyone,

The current buzz word in every household and business circles is Donald Trump. He has indeed created a wave of skepticism and uncertainty due to his policies banning certain Islamic nationalities to enter the US, new rules regarding the HI-B visa, immigrants and so on

Back at home, Budget 2017-18 has been received well by all segments of the society. Finance Minister has succeeded in striking a balance between fiscal consolidation and public spending. Amidst shrinking private investment, short-term negative effects of demonetization, and dim global trade scenario, the Budget was indeed a presentation of hope.

SMEs have much to celebrate with tax being reduced to 25% for companies having a turnover of less than 50 crores and the start-ups will surely benefit as the tax holiday has been extended to 3 out of 7 years (in 2017-18). The cash transactions have been capped at Rs. 3,00,000/- in a bid to move towards digitizing the economy.

Overall, the budget has focused on the government’s main policy areas of fiscal consolidation, tax compliance, digitalization, rural upliftment, poverty alleviation, infrastructure development and industry growth.

Our country is indeed now poised to grow rapidly and we as corporates and professionals have a lot to benefit from the new opportunities coming our way.

However, to reap these benefits, one has to think positively. Now what is positive thinking??

Positive thinking is a way of thinking that benefits you and has an immediate positive impact on your life.

For example: A positive thought ‘I have the capability to do this task’ will naturally help you to do it inspite of the many hurdles that may come your way.

The reason for that is:

  • When you think, ‘I can do it’, and you believe it, you are naturally more confident in yourself and your abilities
  • You are also naturally more motivated and energized to take action to achieve the task, since you believe you can achieve it
  • The result is that you predictably have more success in completing the task, and that you naturally become happier faster and easier due to the positive effects of this thought

Thus, I would urge one and all to look at the glass as half full and not half empty. This will help in your personal growth, your organizations’ growth and the growth of our country. Jai Hind.

With best wishes for a very positive and bright future

I remain
Yours truly,
